Our Story
Meet Margot
After graduating from nursing school in 2020 and being placed at my first hospital in NYC during the pandemic, I, like so many other healthcare workers, felt like I got hit by a bus. Throughout my childhood, I was inspired watching my mom go in for her shifts as a nurse. I always felt like she was a “superhero.” My mom was my inspiration, so much so, that I too entered the path to become an RN and enrolled in nursing school.
The Aha Moment:
Nurses are always on their toes, ready for anything... but a global pandemic? Those 14 hour shifts hit even harder. Nurses everywhere had to be on their "A game" throughout the pandemic in order to help as many people as we could. During my shifts, I was coming up with anything that I could to make my process just a little more efficient. I soon realized that there was one major thing slowing me down… my supplies. I constantly found myself running down to the storage room to stuff EVEN MORE supplies in my pocket to the point where my pants would start sagging. I knew there had to be a better way, so I decided to research ways to fix my issue.
The Meeting That Changed Everything
During the holiday break, I had a chance to sync up with other healthcare workers and tell them about a bag that would be created and customized around every nurses needs. We soon started brainstorming around all the little things that in the end could go such a long way to help nurses world-wide. After doing a crazy amount of researching and drafting up a prototype that looked like Da Vinci drew it (sadly a five year old could have done a better job), I had my first “prototype.” I took time to test out several suppliers who I hoped could now deliver my dream bag. After several rounds of trial and error, the first bag was created!
So What’s a Rumii?
So many nurses out there ask, what is a Rumii and how did we come up with the name? Well after several days of thought, I struggled to come up with a name that made sense. One night, I got together with my family and had a round table discussion (aka a few glasses of wine at a coffee table) to discuss some of their ideas. Alas- the name Rumii popped up. It was creative and centered around what the bag helps nurses with the most, creating more room for their essential goods.
